Panel Instrument Indicates Load Tap Changer Position on Transformers

INCON has introduced an enhanced Model 1511-LTC, a panel instrument that indicates accurate load tap changer (LTC) position on transformers usng slidewire (resistive) transmitters. The 1511-LTC is an enhancement to Incon's existing Model 1511-LTC, and complements the  Model 1250B, which indicates tap position for LTCs using synchro-based transmitters. The unit improves performance and accuracy over existing slidewire indicators because it compensates for errors introduced by contact deterioration. The new 1511-LTC can fill this need by providing both accurate tap position measurement, and advanced communication options.

The NEW 1511-LTC offers the following features:

  • Simplified programming: Automatically divides any unit into equal steps, including neutrals, based on hi and lo step setpoints.
  • Computer programming: Via serial port using ASCII commands, or Modbus.
  • Modbus protocol: For remote data acquisition and programming.
  • Filtering: Enhanced algorithms to clean transmitter signals for accurate reporting.
  • Enhanced display options.
  • Draghand function: Hi/Lo register permits local display and Modbus retrieval.
  • Remote display driver: Secondary display devices can be used.

The Model 1511-LTC is an intelligent electronic device (IED) that performs accurate tap position measurement and supplies absolute position feedback by providing positive confirmation that the LTC has moved to the required tap position as directed. It is easily programmable and has a typical accuracy rating of 0.01%. Additionally, it offers flexible communication options by providing real time outputs that interface with SCADA, PLCs and computers, and offers the option of either digital or analog outputs.
