Electronic Padlocks
Videx's CyberLock Electronic Padlocks can convert a standard padlock into a full-functioning access control system by replacing its mechanical cylinder with a CyberLock electronic cylinder.
This electronic padlock system consists of the pick-proof CyberLock cylinder in a padlock, a CyberKey that cannot be duplicated and CyberAudit access control software. A key can be programmed to restrict each authorized user's access to specific padlocks on pre-selected days and times. Each time the CyberKey opens a padlock, a record of the user ID, date and time is stored in both the lock and the key. A key can be set to automatically expire within minutes, hours, days, months, even shift-by-shift, depending on the task assigned to the user.

Envirotemp FR3 Fluid
Waukesha Electric Systems has completed testing of Cooper Power Systems' Envirotemp FR3 fluid and has approved its use in new Waukesha power transformers. Envirotemp FR3 fluid is a seed-based dielectric coolant that is both nontoxic and biodegradable and is well suited for installations near waterways, wetlands or any other spill-sensitive areas. In addition to its environmentally friendly properties, FR3 fluid is listed by Factory Mutual Global and Underwriters Laboratories as a less-flammable dielectric liquid in compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC) and insurance requirements.

Automation and Control System
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories' (SEL) new SEL-451 system provides flexible bay control and automation features that extend distribution efficiency by enabling full-capacity substation operation. Instead of having 10 different devices providing 10 different functions within the substation, the SEL-451 combines the functions, without RTUs or PLCs, in a single system with much higher reliability than the devices it replaces.
With six PT and six CT inputs, the SEL-451 monitors power, including thermal or rolling interval demand on positive-, negative- and zero-sequence current, as well as single- or three-phase MW, MVAR, MVA and harmonics.
SEL-451 users can trigger alarms or schedule maintenance based on deviation from average mechanical and electrical actuation times for each phase, thereby reducing maintenance costs. Breaker wear can be tracked and breaker service intervals planned using the system's breaker wear monitor information.

Air-Insulated Switchgear
Maysteel introduces FlexiGear, its newly introduced family of padmounted medium-voltage switchgear.
All industry-standard configurations can be ordered in 15-kV and 25-kV ratings, with an array of optional features. The air-insulated units are sized to be drop-in replacements for conventional padmounted gear, eliminating additional site preparation and engineering expense. Fully assembled with top-quality switches, fuses and other components, FlexiGear units are housed in heavy-gauge, full-featured Maysteel enclosures, powder coated to exceed ANSI C57.12.28 requirements. Other key features include: deadfront and livefront designs; easy-access swing-out fuse mountings; spring-hinged barrier preserves deadfront security during fuse changes; insulated aluminum bus and interconnects; and large thermoplastic viewing ports to confirm switch position.

Mobile CIS Software
Innoprise Software Inc. announces the release a mobile customer information system (mCIS) solution. mCIS uses wireless peer-to-peer communications to enable real-time data exchange between the corporate CIS and service personnel in the field, as well as among any connected devices on the network, ranging from cell phones and wireless PDAs to PCs and servers.
mCIS is communication network independent, allowing customers to use their preferred wireless carrier. mCIS creates a virtual network that enables mobile workers to travel freely within a service territory, directly accessing and interacting with critical CIS data and other field devices and business systems transparently, while maintaining data security. mCIS-supported mobile service order management, e-mail and AMR applications operate and communicate in real-time when connections are available, and automatically switch to a synchronization or queuing mode if disconnected without disrupting the end user.

Three-Phase Power Monitor
Carlo Gavazzi has announced the release of the WM12 multi-function three-phase power monitor. The WM12 meters monitor the most popular electrical parameters for three-phase, plus power factor, frequency, demand and reactive energy. These meters are well-suited as an upgrade over digital panel meters and other types of instrumentation.

Field Design, Work Order Automation
StakeOut 6.0, MiniMax's field design and work order automation solution allows utilities to natively view ESRI or AutoCAD-based data directly in StakeOut at high rending speeds, enabling more accurate station placement, more detailed sketching and effective communication of more station data. These capabilities, along with increased underground functionality, allow users to display gas or water stations and pipelines in StakeOut and give those data sets an appearance entirely different from electric features. The technology can be further leveraged to view digital spec drawings in the field.
