Sonelgaz S.p.A. has awarded ALSTOM a Euro 123 million order to build a 300-MW turnkey power plant, which will be located in F'Kirina, some 323 miles (520 km) east of Algiers.
Sonelgaz S.p.A is a public company for the production, transmission and distribution of electrical energy, in addition to the transport and distribution of natural gas over the national Algerian territory.
ALSTOM's scope of supply includes two of the well-proven GT13E2 gas turbines as well as the generators, the high-voltage substation and the electromechanical auxiliaries. In addition, ALSTOM will provide the civil work, erection, commissioning and testing of the power plant. All the major components for this project are ALSTOM in-house proven products.
The construction of the F'Kirina power plant began in September 2003 and is scheduled for operation in October 2004. This project will help alleviate the shortage of power in Algeria, and will create jobs in the region during the construction and operation of the power plant, which has an estimated lifetime of 20 years.
