AREVA's T&D division has been awarded a euro 70 million contract from the United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Electricity and Water for the design and installation of a new high-voltage substation located in Dhaid. The substation will ensure the interconnection between the different Emirates' power grids in line with the UAE's grid unification program.

AREVA T&D will build and install a new 400/220-kV substation composed of ten 400-kV and ten 220-kV gas-insulated switchgear bays and two 500 MVA power transformers. Additional equipment and services will include digital control systems, protection and control equipment, and civil works.

This contract follows recent achieve-ments by AREVA T&D in the country, such as the recently awarded euro 124 million project with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority for the delivery of two high-voltage substations.

Kurt Hakansson, executive vice president of AREVA T&D's systems business, said, “By securing this new contract, AREVA T&D continues its march toward excellence while further consolidating its position in the region as leader in high-voltage transmission projects. This is the second contract we have been awarded in the UAE in the past month, demonstrating customers' confidence in AREVA T&D's capabilities.”
