BC Hydro and NxtPhase Corp., both of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, have formed a technology alliance to research and demonstrate precision optical sensor devices that will change the way high-voltage power is measured. NxtPhase has created optical sensing devices to more accurately measure electrical voltage and current in high-voltage substations and generating stations.

BC Hydro will conduct field trials to test and demonstrate the devices at its Ingledow Substation in Surrey to verify the device's performance over time and at various operating temperatures.
