Wright Tool's 2006 four-color product catalog is now available in English and Spanish. The 388-page catalog lists new product offerings in the following categories: wrenches, ratchets, adaptors, sockets, torque tools and a variety of other hand tools.

Wright Tool offers more than 3600 tools for the industrial, contractor and MRO markets. All Wright-manufactured products are made in the United States and carry lifetime guarantees against defects in workmanship.

Orbital Action Jig Saw

Milwaukee Electric Tool introduces its new model 6268-21 variable speed Orbital Action Jig Saw with LED light. The new saw offers a cushion-gripping surface on the top handle and front nose, as well as a lower center of gravity and counter-balance mechanism for smooth operation and optimal operator comfort. The 6.5-A, variable-speed 0-3,000 SPM motor muscles through the toughest materials.

The LED light improves the sightline for the user and is securely protected within the all-metal gear case for durability. The light and nine-position dust blower provide increased visibility to follow the cut line. With a 1-inch stroke, a four-position orbital cutting action and precision roller blade guide system, this saw can power through wood, metal and laminates.

The Quik-Lok blade clamp allows fast and easy blade changes and a keyless bevel shoe adjusts to 45 degrees in both directions. In addition, the 12-ft, 8-inch cord gives the end user more mobility. The new Jig Saw comes complete with two jig saw blades, anti-splintering device plastic shoe cover, dust shield and an impact-resistant carrying case.

Lineman Training Programs

In 2006, Northwest Lineman College will mark its 13th year of providing power delivery training and materials to the electric utility industry. More than 2000 individuals from across the United States and Canada have participated in classes and seminars from the Meridian, Idaho-based vocational training institute near Boise.

The Electrical Lineworker Program: This introductory training is for students who wish to enter the power delivery field and become lineworkers. The program is a combination of academic knowledge and work skills that prepare the student to be successful in a lineman apprenticeship.

The Power Delivery Program: This is interactive, correspondence-based academic training for power delivery employees. The lineworker certification curriculum features four modules of applicable power delivery technical information that is registered with the U.S. Department of Labor and can be used to earn journeyman lineman certification. Students study the materials and take examinations as they progress. Curriculum for substation technicians is in progress.

Specialized Training Program: Northwest Lineman College also provides a variety of specialized training modules to meet the needs of the industry. Established courses include:

  • Climbing wood poles
  • Transformer safety, theory and connections
  • OSHA 1910.169 certification
  • Climbing and working on steel structures
  • Pole-top, aerial lift and vault rescue
  • First aid /CPR certification
  • Basic electricity
  • Live line methods and procedures
  • Line work rigging
  • Basic metering.

The college has also developed various safety and training products including reference books, safety posters, pocket linemen references and other items.

The Astec EarthPro Series DD-1215 horizontal directional drill from Astec Underground offers innovative features and an updated, rounded look that will definitely turn heads. The DD-1215 offers 12,000 lb (5443 kg) of thrust/pullback force with the capability of up to 1500 ft-lb of rotary torque. The maximum rotary speed can reach up to 200 rpm. The drill weighs in at 8500 lb (3855 kg) fully loaded with pipe, and is approximately 200 inches long by 50.5 inches wide (5.08 m by 1.28 m).

The DD-1215 is powered by a 65-hp Cummins B3.3C diesel engine. It also has an onboard mud pump that can pump up to 15 gallons per minute at up to 1250 psi. The floating carriage is capable of two speeds, including a 120-ft/min fast mode for adding and removing rods.

The DD-1215 uses 10-ft drill stem and can carry up to 400 ft of pipe in its rod baskets. The powered pipe greaser and rod loader are standard, as are the floating open-top vise wrenches.

The Ditch Witch organization has upgraded its RT70 and RT90 heavy-duty tractors with 2004-compliant engines that provide greater horsepower and require less maintenance. In addition to the new John Deere engines, which enable the machines to operate twice as long between recommended oil changes, the new Ditch Witch RT75 and RT95 models feature improved air-intake, fuel-filtration and cooling systems.
