Cannon Power Corp. chose the Advanced Distributed Monitoring System (ADMS) from Second Wind Inc. (Somerville, Massachusetts, U.S.) to monitor and control the 62 turbines at the Cabazon Wind Park in Southern California. Cabazon is the ninth wind energy project Second Wind will be monitoring in the San Gorgonio Pass. Second Wind's ADMS is an independent supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for utility scale wind power plants.
The 41-MW wind park at Cabazon has a fault-tolerant communications network installed to monitor activities at each turbine. The ADMS controls automatic shutdown of turbines due to wind turbulence, monitors the substation, and provides data for a forecasting model to the California ISO.
The Cabazon Wind Park adds 62 Vestas 660-kW turbines to the San Gorgonio Pass, one of the three main wind resource areas in California.
