PECO Finalizes Contract with Sensus for Smart Grid Program

Sensus and PECO, a subsidiary of Exelon Corp., have finalized a contract for the purchase and deployment of the Sensus FlexNet Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) communications network and smart meters. The smart grid program will allow PECO to effectively enable outage management, distribution automation and voltage monitoring applications in a program that is expected to encompass more than 1.6 million electric customers.

The Sensus FlexNet technology will enable PECO to provide clear and reliable communications in a dense urban environment via FCC-licensed spectrum and support future smart grid applications. Work is underway to deploy smart meters over the next 10 years. PECO will leverage the Sensus AMI and distribution automation technologies to monitor and measure electric distribution and consumption on a single dedicated communications highway for all related utility applications.
