“Any company bringing new products to new customers in the face of intense competition had better be bringing something new to the table,” said Adrian Bernhard, General Manager, Commercial Products at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms. “We believe we have this ‘something new' in our ability to offer extended availability on these products, meaning that customers will see much lower total cost of ownership because they will not need to incur the expense of re-qualifying a complete system every time an individual element of the system becomes obsolete. We believe this extended availability guarantee is unique in the industry.”
GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms plans to make these new single board computers available unchanged over a period of up to five years, thereby minimizing the cost to customers in re-qualifying hardware platforms when components or subsystems are changed. This is made possible by the careful selection of components and subsystems that have a high degree of likelihood of remaining in production over the long term. Where changes are unavoidable, customers who have ordered this service at the outset will be advised – and have the opportunity to veto – any modifications ahead of time.
