February 25, 2010, Elgin, IL -- Hi-Line Utility Supply Co. has earned accreditation by the North American Association of Independent Laboratories (NAIL) for its high voltage testing services for lineman's rubber goods such as insulating gloves, blankets, covers, sleeves, line hose and plastic guards, as well as for insulated by-pass jumpers and portable grounding jumpers.

Hi-Line has long been a testing service provider to some of the most prestigious utilities, cooperatives, and contractors in the nation. Hi-Line serves organizations employing just a few linemen to over 5000, all with specific and on-going testing requirements for high voltage equipment. Hi-Line has been providing high-voltage testing and cleaning services for the tools and equipment needed to safely complete work with high voltage for about fifteen years.

“NAIL is a highly respected organization which has come to our facility, evaluated our practices, and validated the process we have employed on behalf of linemen for over a decade,” said Dave Beck, president of Hi-Line for the past twenty years. “We are pleased to be able to join NAIL and receive its highly regarded Certificate for protective equipment testing as a means of seeking to maintain our high standards and improve safety in the field, one of the basic tenets of our company philosophy.”

Hi-Line tests equipment that is used primarily by utilities and contractors in the electrical and telecommunications field. Increasingly, however, such equipment is required to be used by manufacturers “who have to handle or work on or in the proximity of electrical equipment energized at more than fifty volts,” according to NAIL documentation. In addition to working with rubber goods and temporary grounds and jumpers, Hi-Line also cleans and tests fiberglass tools and equipment that are used by electrical workers. Hi-Line also maintains one of the largest inventories in North America of rubber goods, as well as new hard-to-find tools and equipment for the transmission and distribution (T&D) industry.
