Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada, Sept. 8, 2008 –- RuggedCom Inc. (“RuggedCom”) (TSX:RCM), a provider of rugged communications networking solutions designed for mission-critical applications in harsh environments, today announced that it has received a purchase order totalling more than $1 million for a wind farm application in China. This order represents the largest single purchase order ever received by RuggedCom. Expected shipments are to be spread out over the next 12 months.

“This order signifies the achievement of key milestones related to two strategic focuses for RuggedCom. The first relates to expanding our global reach into China and the second relates to our expansion into wind power generation; both markets represent large opportunities for us”, explains Marzio Pozzuoli, President and CEO of RuggedCom. “For this order, we leveraged our domain expertise in the electric power market and worked closely with a leading manufacturer of wind turbines to tailor our products specifically for wind farm applications. We plan to use this experience and new solution set to further penetrate this growing market.”

The newly released RuggedSwitch® i800 series of products and the RuggedSwitch® RSG2100 are used for the wind turbine control system and are interconnected throughout the wind farm. RuggedCom worked closely with the customer to tailor the products' specifications to meet their specific requirements. In addition, one of the key selling points was RuggedCom's industry leading RuggedRatedâ„¢ feature set for all its products. RuggedRatedâ„¢ products meet or exceed a wide range of electric utility industry standards (such as IEC61850, IEEE1613); provide a high level of immunity to electromagnetic interference and heavy electrical surges; feature a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C (no fans); have high mean-time-between-failures (MTBFs) and reliability characteristics; and include extensive cyber security features. RuggedCom's local support and service, and short lead times were also contributing factors in the decision to use RuggedCom products. RuggedCom will continue working closely with the wind turbine manufacturer to ensure its mission critical communication network infrastructure needs are met.
