Leadership team to lead five educational technical sessions for deploying effective advanced grid programs

Lafayette, Cal, (September 8, 2010)—Utility Integration Solutions (UISOL), the utility industry systems integration specialist, will present three training courses and a workshop, and will moderate a technical panel at the Autovation 2010 Conference taking place September 12-15 at the Austin Convention Center.

Autovation is hosted by Utilimetrics, the professional association representing gas, water and electric utilities that promotes technology advancements for improved operations, customer service and resource utilization. The annual event attracts utility engineers and business people interested in pursuing best practices for their respective organizations.

UISOL's nationally recognized authorities on smart metering and demand response (DR) will lead the following sessions:

• Beginner's Guide to Meter Data Management (Sunday, September 12) — In this two-hour course, John Wambaugh, UISOL senior vice president, will instruct smart grid newcomers on understanding, selecting and implementing MDM solutions at their utilities. The course material is based on Mr. Wambaugh's experience with electric, gas and water utilities deploying 50,000 or more meters to their service territory.

• Meter Data Management (MDM) What is it? How do I use it? (Sunday, September 12) — Also instructed by John Wambaugh, this course is a more advanced look at MDM. The approach to MDM is systematic and outlines the project lifecycle beginning with blueprinting, consummating in operation. The course targets electric, gas and water utilities considering a large deployment of smart metering infrastructure (SMI).

• Understanding and Implementing Demand Response Management (DRM) (Sunday, September 12) — This four-hour course is intended for all generation, transmission and distribution utilities in all stages of SMI, MDM and DR deployment. Mark Day will be joined by UISOL CEO Ali Vojdani to lead attendees in specifying requirements for DRM, selecting and implementing technologies, and understanding the role of MDM in DRM. Case studies and real-life deployments will serve as examples for the most effective processes.

• The Role and Scope of Utility Participation in Demand Response (Monday, September 13) — This panel discussion will be moderated by John Wambaugh, with contributors from a regulatory commission, an electric utility and two demand response vendors. The discussion will center on the capabilities of demand response and the role utilities might play in realizing the benefits of DR programs.

•RFP Development Workshop (Wednesday, September 15)— Led by UISOL vice president, Mark Day and Enspiria executive consultant, Kevin Cornish, this workshop will provide utility executives with a proven flexible process for composing effective proposals for smart grid-related projects. It is intended to be interactive and make use of the prior experiences of the workshop attendees to address real-life issues surrounding the RFP development process.

UISOL executives are particularly adept at speaking about smart grid topics because of their organizational specialization in utility business processes, such advanced meter project lifecycle, implementing demand response programs and industry-wide standardization measures. UISOL's products are deployed at multiple North American grid operators.
