Alstom Grid Supplies Smart Dispatch Adapted to Italian Energy Market Rules
Alstom Grid has delivered the first phase of the day-ahead and intra-day market applications of its Smart Dispatch Market Management solution to Terna S.P.A., the Italian transmission system operator (TSO). These applications went live on Jan. 1, 2011, after being configured for the new Italian energy market rules. A second phase will be implemented in 2011 to allow additional developments on the system.
The Smart Dispatch solution has a flexible framework, allowing Terna to comply and adapt to changes in local electricity regulations quickly. In addition, the solution includes cutting-edge technology and smart grid-ready applications to optimally and reliably manage large electricity networks and bring energy market efficiency benefits to end customers.
With its national control center operating in Rome, Terna is one of the largest TSOs in the world that manages the Italian transmission grid with more than 62,000 km (38,525 miles) of high-voltage lines from 150 kV to 380 kV, interconnecting six countries and with an annual electricity demand of more than 57,000 MW.
