As a result of broad public interest in the National Electric Transmission Congestion Study released by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) on Aug. 8, the DOE has decided that, prior to issuing a report designating any “National Interest Electric Transmission Corridors,” the agency will first issue any designation it is considering in draft form. This will allow for more opportunities for review and comment from states, regional entities and the general public. The DOE plans to release a draft soon. The first comment period was held after the DOE issued the study, which provides analysis of generation and transmission capacity across the country and identifies critical areas that need attention to meet growing demand.
