EDF Unit to Make GBP6 Million Investment in Peterborough Power Network
EDF Energy Networks is investing £6million to improve the electricity network in Peterborough to reinforce power supplies for years to come.
Work will begin on two separate projects in the city in August. The first project includes the installation of more than two thousand meters of underground cable in the Oundle Road area.
This £3million investment by the company is essential to reinforce the electricity network in the area to accommodate for the predicted increase in demand for service as the city develops.
As part of this project, work is due to begin in Oundle Road on Aug. 6 when trenches for the new underground cables will be dug, between the junctions of London Road and New Road and from New Road to Bakers Lane.
EDF Energy Networks has worked closely with the relevant local authorities to minimize the impact of this work, which is expected to take five months to complete.
Work on a second project is also set to commence in early August to the east of the city at Peterborough East Grid Substation.
The works at the site will commence in early August 2007 and the project will last approximately ten months. This project will see a further £3 million investment to reinforce the network in the area.
Director of Capital Programme Barry Hatton said: “It’s fantastic news for Peterborough that EDF Energy is making such a major investment in the electricity network over the coming months. These works will reinforce the network to support future growth in the city for years to come.”
