From 2012 through 2020, ITC Holdings plans more than US$24.1 billion in transmission investments, including more than 8,686 miles (13,978 km) of new and upgraded lines, according to analytics by The C Three Group, LLC and the North American Electric Transmission Project Database. Xcel Energy, Clean Line Energy Partners, American Electric Power (AEP) and Western Area Power Administration round out the Top 5 companies with a combined total of more than US$31.9 billion of planned transmission investments through 2020.
Other highlights of The C Three North American Electric Transmission Project Database show that Texas still leads all states with more than 9,175 miles (14,765 km) of new lines planned through 2020. The C Three Group also found that the United States and Canada have nearly 4,000 substation projects planned over the next eight years, with AEP topping all utilities with 268 new projects.
The C Three Group continuously tracks the status of early stage, advanced development and under-construction electric transmission projects in its North American Electric Transmission Project Database. C Three's electric power industry experts developed the database for long-range forecasting, strategic planning and business development.
Since Dec. 1, 2011, The C Three Group has added more than $2.7 billion and 1,408 miles (2,266 km) of new and upgraded transmission line and substation projects to the database.
