Germany/China: Joint Venture Created to Manufacture MV Switchgear
Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution and Shenzhen Baochang Power Supply Co. Ltd. have formed a joint venture, called Siemens Medium Voltage Switchgear Co. Ltd. (SMSS), to manufacture medium-voltage switchgear for the south of China. This move gives Siemens PTD access to the southern Chinese market for power supply systems, a market currently dominated by regional suppliers.
A new manufacturing facility will be built in Shenzhen, the headquarters of SMSS, to produce the switchgear. Future production will be closely associated with the existing joint ventures Siemens Medium Voltage Switching Technologies Ltd. in Wuxi and Siemens Switchgear Co. Ltd. in Shanghai.
Baochang Power Supply was founded in Shenzhen in 1991 as a builder and operator of power plants. In 2004, the company achieved sales of around euros 140 million. The new joint venture has been named Siemens Medium Voltage Switchgear Co. Ltd. (SMSS).
