ABB's Market Manager System (MMS) successfully completed factory acceptance testing and was shipped to Manila, Philippines, on Nov. 19, 2004. After its on-site installation, the Philippines Wholesale Energy Spot Market (WESM) will use the MMS, which will undergo site testing and market trials before being put into commercial operation later in 2005.

The WESM MMS system is based on ABB's proven Market Manager platform, which also runs electricity markets in California, New York and Ontario, and is being implemented in South Korea and East China. The system includes the full complement of software required to manage a deregulated electricity market, including bidding, scheduling, dispatch and price calculation applications, plus settlements, accounting and metering software, all implemented under full security/PKI protocols.
