Protective Relays Exceed $1.5 Billion
Protective-relay usage patterns in the world's electric power business continue to grow, with the annual market exceeding US$1.5 billion, according to a recent study by The Newton-Evans Research Co. In total, global demand for protective relays will approach $2 billion by 2009, estimates Newton-Evans. More than 200 North American utilities and 40 international utilities from major countries were surveyed on their usage patterns. The findings have been released in a four-report series: “The World Market for Protective Relays in Electric Utilities: 2006-2008.”
Schweitzer Engineering Labs (SEL) remains one of the fast-growing companies in the worldwide protective-relay industry. In addition to SEL, ABB, AREVA T&D, GE, Nanjing Automation Research Institute and Siemens each have a minimum of $125 million in protective-relay and ancillary equipment sales.
