United Kingdom: Ofgem Approves New Fees for HV Network
Ofgem, the Office of the Gas and Electricity Markets, approved new charging arrangements paid by generators and customers to meet the £1.7-billion cost of running Great Britain's high-voltage transmission network, which is the basis of the new British electricity market due to begin in April 2005.
Ofgem's approval requires the National Grid Company, which runs the network and applies the charges, to monitor and review certain aspects of the charging regime over its first two years of operation and to propose refinements where necessary.
For Scottish domestic and business customers, the cost of transmission is set to fall. And for Scottish generators and renewables, the overall cost of transmission will remain the same; however, for some generators, costs might even fall.
