Siemens Provides Solutions for Mining Industry in Peru

Siemens Peru has consolidated its growth through important industry and energy projects, where solutions of all its divisions have been consolidated.

In the electric sector, which has reached nearly 10% of annual growth in the last three years, Siemens has been the main supplier to fulfill this demand, standing out in projects such as the installation of thermoelectric turbines at the Chilca Electric Complex and their incorporation to the national electric system through important substations.

Siemens Peru is currently writing a new history by providing solutions to the mining industry contributing to the development of the main economic activity of the Inca country. This is the case of Bayovar, the most important mining project in the country.

This is an example of synergies and cooperation between Siemens Energy and Industry sectors, which were able to offer an integral solution with all the power requirements and industrial processes to the customer. This solution includes assembly and commissioning of the electric infrastructure from 220/138/60 kV to 22.9/0.46 kV, and also the supply of industrial equipment associated with the mining process.

During the bidding process, the Brazilian mining company Vale divided the electric system into four packages. Through its Peruvian subsidiary, Minera Miskimayo, awarded to Siemens packages two, three and four, and package one was awarded to Consorcio Transmantaro S.A. (Interconexión Eléctrica S.A. - ISA y Empresa Energía de Bogotá - EEB), which contracted Siemens to develop this package. Therefore, 100% of this US$36 million project became Siemens Peru responsibility.

Bayovar consists of two stages. The first one, with an investment of $489 million, will start operations in July 2010 with an annual phosphate production of 3.9 million tons. During the second stage, the plan is to duplicate production in order to make Peru the ninth-largest worldwide producer.
