The 22nd CIRED International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity organized by the Institution of Engineering and Technology will be held in the Kistamässan Kista, which located in Stockholm, Sweden. This biennial event follows on a record-breaking conference held in Frankfurt, Germany, which attracted 1,300 delegates from more than 60 countries. This year, CIRED, which is regarded as the world's leading forum for the electricity distribution community, will address “Electricity Distribution Systems for a Sustainable Future.”

Stockholm is one of the world's most beautiful capital cities, built on 14 islands in Lake MäLaren, connected by 57 bridges. Delegates and their companions will be able to enjoy this city's 723-year-old history, visit numerous museums and take in the architectural features of this beautiful location. All attendees will receive a warm welcome from the Swedish community in Stockholm, the capital of Scandinavia.

The program for CIRED 2013 will reflect on the ever-changing business and political demands now placed on all aspects of electricity distribution. The content of the program is arranged to present contributions for all sectors of the industry and, therefore, will attracts delegates from utilities, regulators, business associations, manufacturers, consultants, service providers, large electricity-using industries, universities and research institutions.

In addition to the increasing international representation and delegate numbers at each successive CIRED, the technical committee received a record number of abstracts — 1,508 — from which they have selected more than 750 papers from authors around the world for presentation in at least one of the main features that are packed into the three-day technical program.

Sven Lindgren, chairman of the Swedish CIRED National Committee and senior advisor in Vattenfall Eldistribution AB, offers a welcome message:

“I shall be pleased to welcome all of you related to the electricity distribution community to the CIRED 2013 conference in Stockholm. The CIRED Swedish National Committee is very honoured to host the conference in Sweden; for the first time in CIRED history, the conference venue is in a Nordic country.

“The CIRED conferences have developed enormously over the last 10 years and have been successful on all fronts. The number of delegates has steadily increased, the introduced guided poster sessions have been a success, the roundtables have attracted even more delegates to discussions on highlighted topics and the exhibition has advanced to be known as one of the most important in the business. I am convinced that this very successful progress will continue and that the conference in Stockholm will correspond to the very highest expectations.

“After the conference days, I hope delegates will also take the opportunity to spend some time to see Stockholm and experience the special clear and light air at this time of year — with the sunset late in the evenings, it is more or less light the whole night through. On Friday ending of the conference week, you furthermore have the opportunity to join some of the technical visits that I hope will give you yet another additional flavour of Sweden.”
