AREVA T&D Offers Higher Ratings in SF6 Generator Circuit Breakers

AREVA T&D, a co-host of the Factory Day at the 2008 Finepoint Circuit Breaker Test & Maintenance Training Conference, has announced the extension of one of its premier products: the FKG Generator Circuit Breaker (GCB) for the +600 MW unit power generation market segment.

The FKG, with its fully spring operating mechanism, is now available with ratings up to 160 kA of short-circuit current and up to 26,000 A of nominal current.

Technological advances in AREVA T&D’s FK3 spring operating mechanism made this extension possible and offer many advantages not possible with other types of mechanisms: low maintenance costs, maximum energy stability, higher reliability, and the elimination of any oil leak risk.

A sequential inter-locking system ensures complete safety during operation and maintenance. AREVA T&D’s patented cooling system is inspired by experience gained with GCBs for nuclear power plants. An efficient and optimized monitoring system, the CBWatch-2 for pro-active maintenance, makes the FKG Generator Circuit Breaker suitable for all high-power generation sites.
