Allegheny Power Completes Largest Service Restoration Effort in Company History

Allegheny Power reported that in the past week the company restored power to more of its customers as the result of a single storm event than at any other time in the company’s history.

A wave of storms struck the region on the evening of Feb. 11, as strong winds – some packing gusts of 90 mph – whipped through Allegheny Power’s four-state service territory. During the event, company crews and other service personnel restored power to nearly 373,000 customers in parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia.

Approximately 2,175 personnel participated in the restoration effort, including about 1,200 Allegheny Power employees, 550 contract lineworkers and 425 contract tree trimmers. The storm team restored service to nearly 267,000 customers in the first 24 hours of the event.

“Our employees displayed their commitment by working around-the-clock to turn the lights back on as quickly and safely as possible,” said Paul J. Evanson, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Allegheny Energy. “This was a team effort, and we are proud of our hard-working and dedicated group.”
