Allegheny Power Restores Service to 115,000 Customers after Friday's Violent Storm
Allegheny Power has restored service to more than 115,000 customers impacted by Friday’s severe weather.
More than 600 workers participated in the effort, including approximately 250 mutual assistance and contract lineworkers and tree trimmers. Service was restored to approximately 98,000 customers within the first 48 hours of the storm. All affected customers had power by Monday afternoon.
“Friday’s storm packed a powerful punch,” said Rodney L. Dickens, president, Allegheny Power. “Our crews worked around the clock to get the lights back on for customers.”
The violent weather ripped through Allegheny Power’s service territory late Friday afternoon. With heavy rains and wind gusts as high as 86 mph, the storm knocked down trees and branches, causing significant damage to electrical equipment.
A majority of the outages occurred in Pennsylvania, where more than 100,000 customers lost power. Hardest-hit were portions of Westmoreland, Washington and Allegheny counties. As part of Allegheny Power’s comprehensive storm plan, the company quickly re-deployed crews within its service territory to the affected areas. Restoration was completed without any recordable work-related injuries.
