BC Hydro Goes Live with Itron’s MDM System for SAP Utility AMI Solutions

BC Hydro has gone live with Itron MDUS, Itron’s meter data management system for use with SAP for Utilities solutions, and is currently collecting data from 400,000 meters. By the end of 2012, the system will collect data from over 1.8 million meters. The MDUS system, combined with the Itron smart metering system being deployed by BC Hydro, provides the utility with a complete end-to-end smart grid solution.

The installation at BC Hydro marks the first and largest system integration of an MDM system for SAP Utility AMI solutions with Enhancement Pack 5 (EhP5) in the industry. Other Itron customers, such as London Hydro, among others, are deploying this version of Itron MDUS. With Itron MDUS, these utilities have a flexible system to implement business processes, utilize smart meter data in existing processes and enable new services.

As an SAP-qualified business solution, Itron MDUS has been developed and integrated in accordance with SAP development guidelines. It has been certified for integration with the SAP NetWeaver technology platform and has undergone solution qualification by SAP to meet additional criteria. Itron has created a platform for its customers to succeed in their smart grid initiatives without limiting the use of their SAP solution capabilities. With Itron MDUS, utilities can support existing billing processes,  develop new energy conservation and customer engagement strategies, and capture operational information to help optimize the electricity grid.
