BGE Restores Electric Service to Nearly All Affected Customers

Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. has restored electric service to the vast majority of customers affected by last Friday’s historic snowstorm, but advised customers that they could experience new outages as another weather system is expected to bring significant snowfall to Central Maryland today and tomorrow.

"BGE employees have been working around the clock under extraordinarily difficult operating conditions, restoring electric service to more than 95,000 customers in less than four days," said A. Christopher Burton, senior vice president of gas and electric operations and planning for BGE. "But their work may not be over. With the approach of this second powerful and dangerous storm, BGE’s field forces and other employees involved in the restoration effort are committed to continuing the very challenging and often hazardous work that they have been so focused on for nearly a week."

Linemen and support staff numbering between 450 and 500 from Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio will remain in Central Maryland and continue to provide mutual assistance to BGE should it be needed. The total number of people involved in the restoration effort is approximately 1500, which includes BGE personnel, contractors and out-of-state support. BGE’s Call Center has taken more than 138,000 calls since the start of storm operations on Friday afternoon.
