FPL Crews Rapidly Restoring Power in Fay's Wake
Florida Power & Light Company’s crews worked through the night to continue to restore service disrupted by Fay while preparing resources to respond as the storm moves into new areas.
Outages have been widely scattered, caused by high winds, debris, trees and limbs blowing into lines, and flooding, for example. Here is the status of restoration:
- Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties have been essentially restored.
- The Treasure Coast and the west coast counties served by FPL will be essentially restored by the end of the day.
- The company will continue working to restore power between storm bands in Brevard County and is making significant progress. Completion of restoration is dependent on changing weather conditions which may delay restoring service to all customers in this area today.
With the current forecasted northwesterly path of the storm, the company is prepared, should it become necessary, to augment existing crews with an additional 1,000 restoration personnel into the areas north of Volusia County.
“We know how hard it is to manage without power, and we will restore service as quickly as safety permits. We’ll be on the job 24/7 until our customers are back to normal,” said FPL Director of Customer Support Irene White.
