Honeywell Uses Residential Programs to Drive Energy Efficiency in the Carolinas

Honeywell has announced two separate three-year contracts with Progress Energy to manage and deliver energy-efficiency programs for residential customers in North and South Carolina. Progress Energy expects to save more than 31 million kWh of electricity over the course of the program — enough energy to power more than 2900 homes for a year.

The Home Energy Improvement Program (HEIP) and the Neighborhood Energy Saver program will help customers save energy and money through a variety of measures, including home energy assessments, education services and rebates for efficiency improvements. The programs will target more than 1.4 million Progress Energy residential customers in the Carolinas.

As part of a three-year $3.1 million contract, Honeywell will manage Progress Energy Carolinas' HEIP, which offers rebates to homeowners for implementing improvements like HVAC upgrades, equipment tune-ups, energy-efficient window installations and air sealing. Under HEIP, customers select from a list of prequalified contractors to perform the upgrades and then receive rebates in return. Honeywell will provide customer support, process rebates, and recruit and train contractors to assist in implementing the efficiency measures.

HEIP, which began in July 2009, is available to Progress Energy customers in North and South Carolina who live in existing single-family, multi-family and manufactured homes, including mobile homes. To date, Honeywell has processed more than 10,000 rebate requests for Progress Energy and trained more than 700 contractors.
