KCP&L Crew Members Head to Joplin, Missouri, to Help with Storm Restoration Efforts
Yesterday morning at 6 a.m., approximately 60 crew members drove to Joplin, Missouri, to assist Empire District Electric with restoration efforts following this weekend’s devastating tornado. The crews left from KCP&L’s Dodson Service Center located at 8619 Prospect Ave., Kansas City, Missouri.
quot; We’ve spoken with representatives from Empire, who have explained to us the severe damage to the infrastructure in city of Joplin," said Bill Herdegen, vice president of transmission and distribution operations at KCP&L. "While our crews will be working to help to restore power to thousands of residents, we will also be helping to rebuild this city and support our fellow utility in its time of need."
While in Joplin, the crews will help rebuild electrical circuits, repair damaged poles and downed lines and help restore the more than 19,000 customers without power. The KCP&L team consists of approximately 45 linemen and several support personnel, including safety employees, supervisors and mechanics. The crews, comprising personnel throughout the KCP&L service territory, are prepared to stay in Joplin for up to two weeks assisting with restoration efforts.
KCP&L and its employees at home will also help with the relief effort. KCP&L will match 50% of employee donations contributed through American Red Cross, Heart to Heart International or the Salvation Army.
