Landis+Gyr Enabling Finnish City's Switch to Multi-Energy Smart Metering

Landis+Gyr, a provider of integrated energy management solutions, will deliver a smart metering solution for electricity, gas and district heat metering to Lappeenrannan Energiaverkot, the utility of the city of Lappeenranta, Finland.

The agreement is for the deployment of Landis+Gyr's Gridstream solution, which comprises multi-energy smart meters, smart metering software and meter reading services. Landis+Gyr also will be responsible for project management and, with the help of its partners, the rollout beginning in April 2011.

Arto Taipale, CEO at Lappeenrannan Energiaverkot, stated, “An important factor in our choice of supplier was the ability to deliver a solution where a single system can be used to control not just electricity but also other forms of energy, such as district heat and gas. We chose to order the (Gridstream) solution as a turnkey service, since switching to smart metering is a large undertaking that requires special competence and resources.”

Gridstream is Landis+Gyr's complete energy management offering that addresses all of a utility's energy needs in one, thereby providing a solid foundation for the installation of smart metering and, ultimately, the development of the smart grid.
