OG&E Opens Tornado-Response Customer Walk-up Centers

Oklahoma Gas & Electric is opening walk-up centers for customers affected by the May 10 tornadoes in the Norman, Harrah and McCloud areas. Between noon and 8 p.m. today, customers may talk face-to-face with OG&E representatives to report power outages or discuss issues related to OG&E’s response in the areas hardest-hit by the storms.

At the peak of a tornado outbreak Monday night, about 35,000 OG&E customers were without power. This morning, the total has been reduced to 15,000. OG&E has activated its Incident Command center in Oklahoma City and is engaged in a full-scale damage assessment and service restoration effort in accordance with its emergency operations plan.

Early estimates indicate OG&E lost more than 100 transmission structures, 300 distribution poles and 40 transformers in Monday night’s storms

OG&E serves more than 779,000 customers in a service area spanning 30,000 square miles in Oklahoma and western Arkansas.
