Russia: Lenenergo Power Output Sharply up in 2002
JSC “Lenenergo” is the largest utility in northwest Russia, with a franchise of 6.4 million people in St. Petersburg, Russia's second largest city, and the Leningrad region covering 85,900 sq. km (33,166 sq. miles). The company generates, transmits and distributes energy at its 15 power plants, delivering almost 100% of electricity and more than 55% of the heat consumed regionally. The main production indicators of Lenenergo have grown sharply in the first six months of 2002.
- Working capacity of the power stations is up by 25%, or 548 MW.
- Energy produced is up by 6%, or 494 million kWh.
- Useful electricity output is up by 1%, or 114 million kWh.
- Useful heat output is up by almost 6%, or 727,000 gcal.
While electricity sales have grown, the volume of power purchased at the wholesale market (FOREM) has decreased by 550 million kWh. This has been compensated by the electricity generated at Lenenergo's own stations.
