Swiss Utility Specifies ION 7600 Meters
AEW ENERGIE AG (AEW, Switzerland) has selected Power Measurement (Saanichton, British Columbia, Canada) and its Swiss distributor, Herren Electronics, to supply ION intelligent metering and control devices.
Power Measurement will supply the utility with an order of ION 7600 meters to monitor the distribution grid in the canton of Aargau.
According to Christian Bachmann, AEW project manager, AEW selected the ION meters because they met several key requirements of the project: compliance with the EN50160 international power-quality standard, flexible communications features and expanded analysis tools.
With a total of 24 substations, each with two 16-kV bus bars, AEW plans to install two meters per substation to monitor EN50160 statistical data and events such as sag/swells and transients. The meters will transfer this information via modem to a central control room in the Aarau district. The system also will be configured to provide system information as German-language reports.
Established in 1916, AEW is the main utility of the canton Aargau, and one of six utilities that form the Axpo Group, the biggest energy supplier in Switzerland. Throughout its extensive operations, AEW maintains a commitment to the environmentally conscious application of energy.
