Progress Energy Florida Makes Reliability Improvements to Pinellas County Beach Communities
Progress Energy Florida is working hard to improve the electric reliability to several Pinellas County beach communities. The complex work has involved overhead and underwater power lines.
The company has completed one significant project for parts of Treasure Island, including the Isle of Capri and the Isle of Palms. Progress Energy installed a new main power line to serve the area, which crosses under the Intercoastal Waterway.
“Reliability is a responsibility Progress Energy Florida takes very seriously,” said Michael Lewis, senior vice president of Energy Delivery. “Progress Energy is performing this work to ensure that the beach communities continue to receive reliable electricity.”
Progress Energy is wrapping up work on St. Pete Beach, where the company built one new overhead power line and extended one existing power line. The company also is replacing the two underwater power lines that serve this community. Work is expected to be complete this summer.
Work is under way near Clearwater Beach, where the company is replacing a main underwater power line that serves the area. No road closures are expected on Memorial Causeway; bicycle traffic will be routed around the construction. Work is expected to be complete this summer.
