Switchgear is commonly defined as the combination of disconnect switches, circuit breakers, fuses, instrument transformers and the supporting structures used in the arrangement of this equipment. Some authorities also throw in the control and protection aspects for the apparatus, too, but its primary purpose is to control, protect and isolate substation circuits and equipment.
