ALSTOM Transmission & Distribution (T&D) has won a 24 million Euro contract to provide two 220-kV gas-insulated switchgear substations to Enelpower (Milan, Italy) for Ras Laffan Power Plant Co. (RLPPC) in Qatar.

ALSTOM will supply the GIS substations for RLPPC as part of a project to build a 1500-MW power plant and a 40-million gallons per day desalination plant.

ALSTOM will supply substations (one with 18 SF₆ bays and the other with 14 SF₆ bays) plus the digital control systems and auxiliary equipment to Enelpower, a 99%-owned subsidiary company of Italian utility Enel. Enelpower was awarded the power part of the engineering, procurement and construction contract.

The work will be carried out according to a detailed technical specification provided by the local utility Kahrama. ALSTOM will deliver the first quarter of the substations within eight months and the remainder within 11 months and will also supervise the equipment erection and commissioning.
