Power and automation technology company ABB (Zurich, Switzerland) has been awarded a contract to provide a new SCADA system to Ergon Energy (Rockhampton, Queensland). The project is scheduled for completion in mid-2006.
Formed five years ago during the merger of six separate distribution companies, Ergon Energy presently operates each of the legacy company regions with their existing systems. ABB's Network Manager will be installed to manage the combined territory from two control centers operating in parallel, each with the ability to take over for the other in the event of an emergency.
“This is a key step toward improving the operation of our distribution network, as Ergon Energy strives to achieve more effective management of the network assets to deliver improved reliability to our customers,” says Ergon Energy's CEO Tony Bellas.
Ergon Energy also will implement a pilot distribution management system (DMS) from ABB on one of its regions in order to evaluate its needs in anticipation of installing a new DMS to serve its entire network.
