China: East China Installs ABB Integrated IT Systems
The East China Electrical Power Group Corp. (ECEPGC) awarded ABB a US$6 million contract for integrated information technology (IT) systems, which will increase the East China Electric Power Grid's efficiency and provide it with the country's first regional trading system.
ABB will install a SCADA energy management system at ECEPGC's power network dispatching center, which will supervise and control its power transmission network and optimize its operations. ABB also will supply a SABLE market operations system to provide the infrastructure for regional energy trading in East China. The systems are scheduled for operation in mid-2005.
When the Chinese government has finalized the rules and structure for the country's electricity market, the ABB SABLE system will be used to operate ECEPGC's power market, facilitating electricity trades between market participants while observing market rules and operational constraints. Four provincial utility companies and one municipal utility company will be involved in this system: Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian and Shanghai.
