Detroit Edison Goes Live with OMS Based on Intergraph InService Solution

Detroit Edison (Detroit Michigan, U.S.) and Intergraph Corp. (Huntsville, Alabama, U.S.) announce the successful roll out of an outage management system (OMS) based on Intergraph's InService solution.

The OMS, which replaces a legacy mainframe-based system, went “live” after extensive stress testing confirmed production readiness. Tests included load and fail over testing and measured system response to unusually high call volumes, simulating the storm conditions that typically impact the region's electrical infrastructure.

The InService OMS will help Detroit Edison reduce restoration time during power outages and more efficiently manage day-to-day network operations.

In addition, it will analyze operating data to help predict and correct probable distribution network failures. InService is integrated with Detroit Edison's customer information system to capture and serve customer service data and provide notice of electrical outages.

According to Steve Ratkowiak, Detroit Edison manager of business applications, “Detroit Edison and Intergraph worked together to optimize system capabilities. We reengineered business processes to obtain the most productive use of the InService OMS, while Intergraph made several enhancements to support our extremely high call volume during major storms. These efforts paid off as demonstrated by months of stress testing, proving that our system infrastructure and InService are ready to handle a catastrophic storm,” said Ratkowiak.

Intergraph served as both system supplier and integrator, assisting in the coordination of all aspects of the project and working closely with the core team from Detroit Edison.
