HECo Goes Live with Intergraph's Advanced Geofacilities Management Solution
Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions (Huntsville, Alabama, U.S.) announced Hawaiian Electric Co. Inc. (HECo; Honolulu, Hawaii. U.S.) is now in production with Intergraph's geofacilities management solution based on G/Electric industryware for electric utilities.
G/Electric offers HECo a data-centric and mainstream IT architecture that enables easier integration with external systems, such as the utility's customer information system (CIS) and Advantica Stoner SynerGEE Electric analysis application; improves workflow efficiency; enhances data-modeling capabilities; and allows enterprisewide access to the most current geofacilities data.
The implementation received a jump-start from Intergraph's G/Electric industryware, which includes utility best-practice functionality and a standard electric data model, as well as the flexibility to incorporate select changes that accommodate HECo's standard operating procedures. The pilot project was completed in approximately seven months and involved upgrading HECo's legacy AM/FM/GIS, based on Intergraph's flagship FRAMME solution, to next-generation G/Technology. The project scope included data conversion and migration, testing and training. Under a data-sharing agreement, HECo imports extensive landbase features from the city and county of Honolulu. This data, coupled with the electric network intelligence and CIS, provides a wealth of geospatial information used in planning, engineering and operations.
“The foundation is now in place to leverage the geofacilities data for other HECo systems, such as inspection, outage management and work management,” said Barney Yoshioka, HECo IT program manager. “The G/Technology deployment will give more users access to current information, speeding customer service and ultimately reducing operations and maintenance costs.”
G/Electric will now help HECo maximize the use of its geospatial data by expanding the solution to include integration with legacy databases, significantly enhancing decision support throughout the organization.
