Midwest Energy Increases Investment in MiniMax's StakeOut
Midwest Energy Inc. (Hays, Kansas, U.S.) is investing in additional seats of StakeOut Editor, the field design component of the StakeOut system developed by MiniMax Corp. (St. Paul, Minnesota, U.S.).
Midwest Energy's decision to invest in StakeOut grew out of an initiative to improve interdepartmental communication and has led to the standardization of gas and electric units facilitating better operational organization. Midwest Energy plans to use StakeOut with its GIS over the next few years. StakeOut will keep its system up to date electronically, including data regarding overhead and underground distribution lines, transmission lines and gas lines.
“We selected StakeOut to automate our work order process. StakeOut will let us maintain and update the GIS system in real time,” said Mike Engel, vice president of operations for Midwest Energy. “StakeOut will allow Midwest Energy to review many more options when looking at field design and cost estimation. Reviewing many more options minimizes risks and helps us make better decisions.”
In addition to building and maintaining its own system, Midwest Energy does contract construction work for other utilities. Engel said, “StakeOut is a great tool for those jobs. The reports that StakeOut produces, such as pick lists and cost estimates, make those contract estimates more accurate and the jobs should be easier to manage.”
