Omaha Public Power District (OPPD, Omaha, Nebraska, U.S.) awarded a contract to Siemens Power Transmission & Distribution's (Raleigh, North Carolina, U.S.) Energy Management and Information Systems division for a Transmission Energy Management System (EMS) to replace OPPD's existing legacy Siemens system.

Siemens will provide a SINAUT Spectrum supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system with ICCP and Advanced Generation Control (AGC) applications.

Complementing the SCADA/AGC system, are Siemens Spectrum PowerCC-based components: Network Applications, a Historical Information System, a CIM-complaint Information Model Manager, Siemens PowerCC Communications Front-end and an Operator Training Simulator.

OPPD's current EMS went on-line in January 1989. OPPD chose to contract with Siemens to replace this aging system with a more modern system based on standard hardware and software. By doing so, OPPD will take advantage of the new features available with this system and be able to provide more information and better support to its end users.
