PECO Energy Upgrades to MDSI's Advantex r7

A customer of MDSI Mobile Data Solutions Inc. (Richmond, British Columbia, Canada) since 1994, PECO Energy Co. (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.) anticipates even greater returns with Advantex r7's enhanced functionality, configurability and choice of mobile devices. Advantex r7 will be the third generation of MDSI's solution that PECO has implemented.

PECO originally selected MDSI's mobile work force management solution in June 1994 for its “Reengineering Into Service Excellence” (RISE) program. The initial mandate was to identify and deploy technology that would increase efficiency and improve customer service throughout its organization. Following the success of its initial program, PECO upgraded to Advantex r5.2 in 1997 and realized continued customer service success, lowered operating costs and increased productivity.

PECO will use Advantex to support its approximately two million customers and will schedule service work orders for its 320 electric field service dispatchers, mobile workers and supervisors. The solution will dispatch work order details wirelessly, in real time, over PECO's private Ericsson network. Mobile workers will interact with Advantex and process their work through the day using an array of mobile devices, initially laptops, and eventually migrating toward smaller, less-expensive pocket PC devices.

The solution enables dispatchers, supervisors and field workers to have up-to-the-minute information to monitor, manage and execute field service operations effectively. Advantex also will provide for a seamless integration with PECO's proprietary customer information system to ensure customer service representatives have access to the real-time data.
