SMUD to Implement Dexterra Mobile Command Center
Sacramento Municipal Utilities District (SMUD), the electricity provider for the Sacramento, California region, has selected Dexterra Mobile Command Center (MCC) and its Mobile Work Order application. The application – which will be integrated with the company’s SAP ERP system – is being implemented to optimize the scheduling and dispatch of work orders across SMUD’s vegetation management group, with a plan to extend the solution to other departments in the near future.
SMUD is the sixth largest publicly owned utility in the United States in terms of customers served, and as a company has achieved global recognition for its innovative energy initiatives--in particular its tree-planting programs designed to reduce household energy spend on air conditioning through increased shade. Customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance to SMUD, and the company wanted a mobility solution that ensured its field workers in the vegetation management group could receive, review and complete work orders quickly, irrespective of time or location.
“We decided that Dexterra’s solution best met our field mobility requirements, particularly the ability to tailor the solution to meet our needs,” said John Lewis, project manager at SMUD. “The scalability of the solution will enable us to roll out to other departments once the first stage of the deployment is completed successfully.”
Dexterra MCC is a fully integrated end-to-end solution for provisioning, scheduling and dispatching mobile field service technicians. Because workers are directly connected to SMUD’s central scheduling and dispatch system, customer orders can be carried out and signed off in real time without the need for paperwork to be replicated back at the office.
