Open Systems International, Inc. has been selected by Bahamas Electricity Corp. (BEC) to supply a new SCADA and Generation Management System.

BEC is a wholly government owned electric utility, responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in the vast majority of the islands of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. BEC operates 29 generating plants in 25 island locations throughout the Bahamas archipelago, with approximately 96,000 customers and a total installed capacity of 438 MW.

BEC joins OSI’s growing user-base in the Caribbean. Islands which are users of OSI technology currently include Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Croix, St. Thomas and Trinidad and Tobago.

BEC operates generation, transmission and distribution systems throughout The Commonwealth of the Bahamas, an archipelagic nation. For more than 50 years, BEC has been committed to providing customers with safe, reliable electricity in a most cost-efficient manner. The Corporation serves approximately 85% of all electricity consumers in the nation.
