General Physics Expands NERC PER-005 Training Development Project Contract from Wisconsin Public Service

General Physics Corp.'s Energy Services group has received an award from Wisconsin Public Service to develop comprehensive NERC PER-005-compliant System Operator training program materials. In July, GP completed the job and task analysis portion of the project, which included analyzing the system operators’ training needs and defining the required training objectives and curriculum.

The purpose of the NERC PER-005 standard is to ensure that system operators performing real-time, reliability-related tasks on the North American Bulk Electric System (BES) are competent to perform those reliability-related tasks. The competency of system operators is critical to the reliability of the North American BES.

Joe Nasal, senior vice president for GP Energy Services, commented, “Affected power companies throughout North America must demonstrate compliance with PER-005 within two years of its approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), which is expected imminently.”
