2011 IEEE PES General Meeting Plenary Speakers Announced

Registration is now open for the IEEE Power & Energy Society 2011 General Meeting on July 24-28 in Detroit, Michigan. With upwards of 2,500 professionals from every segment of the electric energy industry expected to attend, this meeting will bring together power and energy professionals and members of academia from around the globe.

This year's conference, with its technical theme, The Electrification of Transportation & the Grid of the Future will provide attendees with an international forum to address policy, infrastructure and workforce issues. It will allow experts from across the power and energy professions to discuss various issues and developments in all fields related to transmission, distribution, generation and renewable energy.

PES PES President Alan Rotz will moderate the Plenary Session, which begins immediately following the PES Members Meeting.

  • Notable keynote speaker Anthony F. Earley Jr., Executive Chairman of the Board of DTE Energy, will address the topic “Electric Utility and Automotive Industry Partnership in the Grid of the Future.”
  • Michael A. Finney, President and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, will speak about “Energy Storage and Electric Transportation: Two Industries that are Pure Michigan..”
  • The third speaker is Nancy Lee Gioia, Director, Global Electrification, Ford Motor Company. The Plenary Session will begin at 9:00 am on Monday morning, July 25.

In addition to the technical activities, there will be a variety of awards presentations and networking opportunities including the IEEE Fellows Reception where meeting attendees can congratulate the Fellows Class of 2011. The General Meeting Awards Luncheon will honor PES award winners for their outstanding achievements.

Super Sessions & Tutorials
The meeting will feature a comprehensive technical program with paper presentations, poster and panel sessions and a broad range of cutting-edge topics. Highlighting the meeting program are these topics organized into a number of Super Sessions:

Super Session 1: Reincarnation and Evolution of the Electric Vehicle
Super Session 2: Smart Grid
Super Session 3: Wind Power & Photovoltaics
Super Session 4: Energy Storage
Super Session 5: Energy and the Environment 

The Super Session program is complemented by a series of tutorials that include a selection of 14 full-day and half-day classes and feature multiple aspects of the following subjects:
