August Safety Roundtable to Include Substation Safety Presentation

RMEL will host a Safety Roundtable on Friday, Aug. 7, 2009 at Platte River Power Authority in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Safety roundtables are an opportunity for RMEL members to interact in an open forum to discuss safety issues that face the utility industry. Roundtables begin with a short, safety-focused presentation, which is followed by open discussion of topics introduced by attendees. This open discussion period is the main focus of the roundtable and attendees are encouraged to bring topics of concern and materials to share with their peers.

In response to member support, RMEL offers Safety Roundtables quarterly to allow open discussion in an informal setting of current safety topics, product experience and safety related issues.

Roundtable highlights include:

  • Current “hot topics” focused on safety
  • Learn from your peers
  • Hear actual experiences and cases
  • Share your challenges for support
  • Share and find safety related materials
  • No cost to participants
  • Casual atmosphere
  • All safety issues and materials welcome

The roundtable will start with “Substation Safety,” a presentation by Joel Hernandez, Safety Representative with El Paso Electric Co. Joel’s presentation will encompass the general safety guidelines, procedures and requirements followed by El Paso Electric Co.. The presentation will cover a specific substation contact accident and what procedures were put in place to prevent a recurrence.

The Safety Roundtable is open to all RMEL members and is geared toward those with responsibility for the development, implementation, monitoring and oversight of safety programs for electrical utilities as well as safety consultants. The roundtable is being held at Colorado Springs Utilities and there is no registration fee. In addition, a complimentary lunch will be provided. Attendees are required to RSVP and will receive a continuing education certificate worth 1.0 PDH.

The Present and Future of Grid-Connected Energy Storage

Sponsored by Ice Energy

In this new energy world, we are facing state green energy targets that mandate utilities deliver 20% renewables by 2020. But we know that wind and solar don’t bend to our will like coal and nuclear so, to put it simply, if we are to meet the demands of the times we need the ability to store and recall energy.
