Solutions for Latin America’s Growing Electric Power Demand Offered at new Latin American Transformer Maintenance Symposium

S.D. Myers, Inc. has announced that seven other major international companies in the transformer maintenance industry will join the co-sponsors and presenters at the world’s first Latin American Transformer Maintenance Symposium, to be held June 21-23, 2011, at the Grand Paradise Bavaro resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. S.D. Myers is the overall coordinator of the event.

The seven other sponsors who will also present at the Symposium include: Cooper Power Systems, Pewaukee, Wisc; Doble Engineering Co., Boston, Mass.; Normandy Machine Co. (NMC), Troy, Missouri; Power Asset Recovery Corp. (PARC), Canton, Ohio. Latin America-based companies include Electrical Reliability Testing Services (ERTS), Empresa De Ingenieria, S.A. (EMINSA), both of Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic; and Transformadores del Caribe y and Representaciones S.A. (TRADELCA), Baranquilla, Columbia.

The symposium's four educational modules--Developing a Maintenance Strategy, Implementing a Maintenance Strategy, Condition Assessment and Solutions and Technologies--were developed based on responses of leading Latin American electrical industry specialists from a comprehensive survey recently administered by S.D. Myers. The modules will be presented by international experts from the sponsoring companies followed by open discussions and networking opportunities.

Symposium topic highlights include: Knowing the risks of PCBs and evaluating your options; Using natural ester technology for sustainable transformers; Assessing, diagnosing and analyzing large power transformer conditions; Electrical testing of transformers; Replacing emergency transformer and substation equipment; Managing moisture in transformers; Developing a maintenance strategy; and Role of an aftermarket supplier for electrical contacts and loading tapchangers and oil circuit breakers.
